Just like the base version of the game, the African kingdoms is set in medieval times. This time, however, get to the Black Continent, where under his leadership we African tribes - these include, among others, Berber and Mali. New factions is also a specific entity (e.g. Archer's camel), buildings and technologies. An interesting innovation is the use of various substrates. Structures can be placed on the sand or rock, which has a corresponding impact on their stability. A number of single historical scenarios and, of course, random maps in single and multi mode are still interesting. There are many parameters when choosing maps, as well as game modes. Unfortunately, it is also not very interesting entertainment in the long run. People who want to create powerful armies will have fun on the standard difficulty level, although after 1-2 games they will see that the challenge is not that big. On the other hand, by increasing the difficulty by just one stitch, the time rush game begins, in which every second and decision counts, which turns the "challenge" into something closer to frustration. I will not talk about multiplayer matches, because the game did not allow me to join any game.

Along with the things that shouldn't be changed, there are also things that definitely should be improved, and that didn't happen. First of all, it is about AI. The old AoE II is far from a tactical game, but the advantages and disadvantages of units are very clear, it is impossible to win a cavalry battle when we come across pikemen. The problem is that troops love to get lost, stand still, block, throw senselessly at the enemy (despite the army's defensive positioning), or finally - an opponent with a heap to attack There is so little opportunity for 10 infantrymen to take care of the entire enemy unit and not go to the indicated enemy first and then spread out to the next. In small clashes it doesn't matter, but in key situations I've often cursed when units ran away pointlessly, and often I "lacked my hands" to issue very precise orders while controlling the siege. We can choose from all the classic game modes. There is an Age of Kings campaign that comes from the base game. There's The Conquerors and random maps. I dived into the missions that tell the story of Joan of Arc and reminded myself why I disliked AoE II campaigns in the past. The creators didn't bother to properly arrange the maps or scripts and make the players feel like they are actually participating in a real war. However, most of them constantly revolve around the apparent pattern of city expansion, arduous waiting for resources, and building an army. It's fun at first, of course, but sometimes it becomes monotonous work. In addition, we usually have the same devices at our disposal. Even StarCraft better because each new mission gradually introduced the availability of new troops, structures and advanced technologies.
