The plot does not seem particularly inventive if we take into account the general assumptions of the scenario, but the very fact that we are to kill the Misfit, to whom the Dishonored heroes owe their magical powers, intrigues from the very beginning of the campaign. Dishonored: Death of the Outsider can be treated as a complement to the events of the previous installments of the series, but also as a separate story (at least that's what the authors suggest that there is nothing to stop you from starting your Dishonored adventure with Death of the Outsider) . In the second case, however, we get a very shallow story, devoid of context in some moments. I am talking about the presence of the character of Daud, the mentor of the main character of the reviewed add-on, i.e. Billie Lurk. The Outsider also does not make his debut in Death of the Outsider, as we met him, for example, in the first Dishonored.
I have already mentioned that you can start your Dishonored adventure with Death of the Outsider. Mainly because it is a standalone expansion pack for the second installment of the series, so you don't need to have it for the expansion to work. As part of Death of the Outsider, we get five new story missions, which should take an average of six to eight hours to complete. This time may be shortened or extended depending on the chosen difficulty level and gameplay style. Some will fight opponents, others will shadow their way to the target without arousing any suspicion among the guards or other NPCs. Besides, not everyone will want to "lick the walls" and will try to get to the main goal of the mission as soon as possible.
The very time it takes to get to the end credits of Dishonored: Death of the Outsider clearly suggests that we are dealing with a smaller story (which does not mean small, because compared to other expansions, Death of the Outsider really has nothing to be ashamed of). The individual locations are more linear than in the main installments of the series (although, for example, you can get to the bank via probably four paths), and Billie Lurk has only three main abilities at his disposal without the possibility of improving them. There are also new gadgets, such as a hook mine that allows you to catch enemies, and in addition to them, the protagonist collects (or not, it all depends on the player's decision), bone charms.
