When the developers came under the wing of Bigben Interactive in May 2015, they had to significantly rebuild their work, making it an original game inspired by the work of H.P. Lovecraft. In The Sinking City, the action was shown from a third person perspective (TPP). The authors provide us with a city made up of several districts (the game's world is the largest that Frogwares has created to date). After that we move both on foot and by boat or wetsuit. The driving force of the game are investigations commissioned by neutral characters, in which we are repeatedly forced to make various choices. Our hero also has the ability to reproduce ghosts from the past. There's no shortage of clashes with nightmare enemies (the smaller ones that don't pose much of a problem to clear, as well as the much tougher ones that act as bosses). We eliminate them with a variety of firearms from the era. the arsenal includes a revolver, rifle, shotgun and grenades; In addition, the protagonist can set traps for opponents. In addition, as the hero progresses, he develops his abilities, which are useful in both puzzle-solving, exploration and combat. It is worth remembering that a detective, exposed to cruel views, gradually succumbs to insanity, which is manifested, for example, by hallucinations.

A gloomy world, a strange city and its unusual inhabitants, unusual creatures, a cult and the threat of something incomprehensible and terrible - these are already standard elements of the mixture that has already been used in many Lovecraftian games. The Sinking City does not surprise in terms of its plot, but it is quite a good - although often problematic - detective game. At the beginning of the game, we go to Oakmont. We can explore them freely after a short introduction and completion of the first major mission. It is quite a large location with several districts that differ from each other, resembling a gray-haired and dark version of Venice. Here, too, in many places we have canals instead of streets.
The city has its own atmosphere and definitely helps to create a heavy atmosphere, although its inhabitants can often prevent you from focusing on the game - many NPCs look the same, and a common problem is their jamming, sudden appearance on the street or intermingling with other passers-by. It doesn't affect the gameplay, but it is a bit offensive. That's how many other elements of The Sinking City can be summed up. The animations and behavior of the opponents can be bizarre, and when we get into the boats, we simply teleport to them. The same interior layout of a building or a room can be seen in many different places. Shooting could be a bit more enjoyable as well, as there is currently no real sense of recoil. In general, we still have a slight feeling of dealing with a game with a smaller budget.
However, you can get used to the technical shortcomings. Then we focus on what is most important, which is doing our job. The protagonist arrives at Oakmont (practically inaccessible by non-sea route) to try to explain the origin of his strange visions following the shipwreck he experienced. However, he deals with various criminal cases on the spot. Most often, after talking with a client, we go to the goal that we have to find ourselves. We get to know the name of the street, look at the map and put a road marker. Sometimes you have to fight a handful of enemies, and there will be a thorough inspection of the location, picking up interesting items and collecting evidence. We also use a "sixth sense" to recreate past events, which is somewhat reminiscent of Murdered: Soul Suspect.
