The player assumes the role of the title Valkyrie, who is sent to a fantasy world heading for destruction. Her goal is to discover what is the cause of the coming Ragnarok and recruit warriors who will help her in this task. Valkyrie Elysium is an action RPG. While playing, we explore the world, develop characters, complete tasks and, above all, fight using a highly arcade skirmish system.
During the adventures, recruiting Einherjar, i.e. fallen warriors, who can be summoned during skirmishes, plays a key role. It is worth noting that, unlike the previous installments, in which we could only move in two dimensions, Valkyrie Elysium allows us to freely explore the three-dimensional world. This is of great importance in the gameplay, not only during combat, but also during travel, as it enriches them with platforming elements.
It must be admitted that for the pennies granted and the scarcity of time, the gentlemen of Soleil doubled and tripled as much as they could, but it is known that the tailor of the country gets tired of his matter. Well, you have to realize that in Valkyrie Elysium this time, a hack was prepared for us, giving up the quite unique turn-based strategic combat style recognizable for the series. It's hard to come to terms with it, it's true, but did we get anything to wipe away the tears, more on that later in the review. Knowing where we stand, let's move on to the story in Valkyrie Elysium, which is pretty good for a slasher. Yes, it is just an excuse to uproot everything that moves into the trunk, but it contains a lot of eye-catching moments.
The action of Valkyrie Elysium takes place in the times of Ragnarok, i.e. the final battle and the end of the world contained in Scandinavian myths. Odin fights the wolf Fenrir, but the clash ends in a draw. The All-Father knows it's not over and time is short, but he must regain his full power before the next battle. For this purpose, he sends his Valkyrie (he does not have a name at first) to the destroyed Midgard to "cleanse" the remaining souls of people killed during the war, to strengthen its power. Valkyrie, fanatically devoted to her creator, without any objections and unnecessary whining, briskly sets about carrying out her mission. Unfortunately, Odin has more enemies than he initially thought.
The beginning of the story divided into separate chapters in Valkyrie Elysium, as in the case of The DioField Chronicle, is boring, and the main character gives the impression of an empty shell without emotions and expression. Despite everything, as the action progresses, she begins to take on her own personality and you can even like her. The Einherjar help in this, i.e. the souls of warriors who have not yet left for Asgard, pledging the service of the Valkyries. Each of them in Valkyrie Elysium has their own story and motives affecting their relationship with the protagonist. He admits that our companions lack deeper characters and compared to previous games in the series, they are not memorable, after all, there is no tragedy, so every player will find a favorite.

In turn, the gameplay is what can attract us to this production. Valkyrie Elysium is basically an action game with RPG production systems. Combat plays the first violin here and there is definitely the most of it. Each mission is about defeating a series of enemies using the arsenal and skills of the Valkyries.
In clashes with opponents, we use two attacks, dodge, block and jump like in most action games. All this goes hand in hand with a simple combo system and the ability to cast spells. There is also a Valkyrie ability that allows you to capture an enemy and quickly move towards them. What makes the fights a little more interesting is the ability to summon companions. During the game, we will unlock four Einherjar warriors, who can be summoned to the battlefield for a certain period of time. They have their own unique attacks and will support us in the fight against monsters and other monsters.
