Wolcen Lords Of Mayhem is a dark fantasy-style action role-playing game. The game was developed by the newly formed French Wolcen Studio, made up of young developers united by passion and experience of working with the CryEngine engine. The title was largely funded thanks to a successful Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign. In Wolcen: Lords Of Mayhem, the player takes on the role of a character (male or female) rescued in childhood by a United People's Republic officer, Gerald Heimlock. After this event, the protagonist and his friends - Valeria and Edrik - enter the Military Academy. There the group undergoes extremely exhausting training. Over time, all three will become powerful fighters. With the Human Republic at war with the Brotherhood of the Dawn, the team is assigned to Gerald Heimlock's forces, whose goal is to take over the enemy's capital, Stormfall. However, not everything goes as planned there - the subterranean creatures called Svriir have almost completely destroyed the city. Also, a new enemy is looming on the horizon - the Blind League - bent on restoring the power of the fallen Prince of Wrath, Ahriman. When the People's Republic is defeated, the world will change beyond recognition.
In the basic assumptions, the game Wolcen: Lords Of Mayhem does not deviate significantly from the standards set by modern productions in the spirit of hack'n'slash. We observe the game's plot from an isometric perspective and during exploration we complete a whole range of main and side tasks, most of which are focused on fighting monsters and other enemies. During the skirmishes we use a wide arsenal of weapons (each of the available weapon models has a different functionality and available combos), armor and magical abilities. However, the creators of Wolcen Studio introduced some solutions into the game that bring a little freshness to the usual patterns of the genre. One of them is the asymmetrical armor system, which, among other things, allows wearing different types of armor on the left and right arm. The game also eschews the typical skill trees: passive skills are placed on a rotating dial that allows you to combine skills from different categories, creating unique synergies. Along with the development of statistics and active skills, we have an extremely wide opportunity to personalize the hero's development path.

Wolcen Lords of Mayhem However, it seems the Wolcen crew coped with it quite well. Lords of Mayhem. despite server problems after launch, it climbed to the top of Steam's sales list. We had contact with the production for the first time in 2015, when the Kickstarter fundraiser started. Umbra, because that was the working title of Lords of Mayhem, was announced as an isometric MMO action played on an open world map. There is not much left of these announcements, but we got quite a nice hack'n'slah, where you can spend many hours cutting your way to glory by successive monsters and knocking out new levels of experience.
Playing Wolcen Lords of Mayhem gives the impression that it is a mix of other h'n's games and you can feel the inspiration of Diablo and PoE here. On the other hand, is it possible to come up with something new in this genre? In the game, we enter a typical dark fantasy world, with knights, monsters, and melee and firearms.
Wolcen Lords of Mayhem Graphically, Wolcen looks very good. The game is powered by the CryEnige engine, thanks to which the locations look very good. Reading the textures was a bit annoying, though. Despite the fact that I was playing on a computer with GeForce GTX 1070 TI, 16 GB RAM and Intel i7-8700K, many times in cutscenes or when moving to new locations I witnessed textures reading in layers, which was a bit annoying. The situation was similar with the zombies summoned to help, which only appeared when I started walking.
